Why Toronto is different
Lifting equipment for a city with no room to work in
Most crane work in Toronto is constrained before it starts. Downtown sites have no lay-down area and often no street to set up on. Plants across Scarborough, North York and Etobicoke were built decades ago around equipment that no longer matches what they run today. Loading docks were sized for pallets, not presses.
That is the problem our equipment is built for. A carry deck crane is compact enough to travel through a plant doorway and work inside a bay where a conventional mobile crane cannot set up at all. A high-capacity forklift moves machinery that no warehouse truck can approach. Both matter more in Toronto than almost anywhere else in Ontario, because the space to work is the scarcest thing on the site.
Most crane rental companies in Toronto carry boom trucks and mobile cranes, which are the right machines for open sites and outdoor lifts. Fewer carry the compact indoor equipment, and fewer still carry forklifts rated above 20,000 lbs. If your lift is inside a building, or heavier than a standard truck can take, that is the gap we exist to fill.
We are not a Toronto crane company in the sense of having a yard on Eastern Avenue. We are 30 kilometres west in Oakville, and we deliver into the city constantly. What we bring to a Toronto crane rental or forklift rental is equipment most general rental companies do not carry, and people who will tell you when the machine you asked for is the wrong one.

Broderson carry deck cranes

The indoor crane. A 360° rotating boom over a flat load deck, in a machine low enough to travel through a plant door. It picks the load, carries it, and sets it without a second machine. For Toronto work that means mechanical rooms, elevator shafts, plant floors and basement levels where a mobile crane cannot be deployed.
Two ratings, not one. On outriggers it lifts substantially more than it can pick and carry on rubber. Both are on the load chart.

Our own line, designed and manufactured in Oakville. Hydrostatic drive gives precise placement under load, and the quick-change carriage swaps forks to boom in about ten minutes. Used across the GTA for press moves, die handling, tooling changes and machinery installation in food, printing and metal fabrication plants.
Parts and service come from Oakville rather than an overseas supply chain, which matters when a plant is running continuous production.

The riggers' forklift. A hydraulically extending frame moves the counterweight rearward, so one compact machine covers a wide capacity band. Retracted it threads through a plant, extended it makes the pick. Standard equipment for plant relocations and machinery moves across the GTA.
A removable telescoping boom converts it for slung loads where a hook is needed rather than forks.

Rooftop mechanical and HVAC
Chillers, air handlers and cooling towers onto commercial roofs. Often the constraint is not the weight but where the crane can stand, and whether the structure below carries the outrigger load.
Plant machinery installation
Setting new production equipment onto its foundation inside a building that is already full. Carry deck cranes and Versa-Lifts do this where an overhead crane cannot reach and a mobile crane cannot fit.
Plant relocations
Moving a production line out of an older Toronto facility, or into a new one. Usually runs to a fixed window with penalties attached, which makes equipment availability part of the plan rather than an afterthought.
Elevator and shaft work
Machine rooms, hoisting equipment and components into shafts. Access is almost always the governing factor, not capacity.
Steel and structural placement
Beams, columns and mechanical units on constrained downtown sites where there is no room to lay material down before it goes up.
Emergency breakdown cover
When a machine fails mid-production and the line cannot wait on a lead time. We keep equipment available for this because it is a recurring call, not an unusual one.

Four things determine the machine. Having them ready turns a quote from a guess into an answer.

The load, properly
Weight, dimensions, and where the lifting points are. Estimates are where lifts go wrong. Get the manufacturer's figure or weigh it.

The route in, not just the destination
The lowest clearance anywhere along the path, the tightest turn, and the narrowest doorway. Indoor jobs in older Toronto buildings usually fail on access rather than capacity.

What the floor carries
Machine weight spread across tyres is one number. Outrigger point load is a much higher one over a much smaller area. On a mezzanine, over a basement, or on an older slab, get this confirmed first.

Common questions
Do you deliver cranes and forklifts to Toronto job sites?
Yes. We deliver throughout Toronto and the GTA from our Oakville facility, including downtown Toronto, North York, Etobicoke, Scarborough, Vaughan, Markham, Brampton and the eastern GTA. Delivery is arranged with the rental, and we will discuss site access before the machine is dispatched rather than after it arrives.
Do you rent equipment, sell it, or both?
Both, across all three lines. Short and long term rental as well as outright purchase. Which makes more sense usually comes down to how often you need the capacity. Project-based lifting favours rental, while recurring heavy moves through the year often justify ownership. We are happy to work through the numbers with you.
What does crane rental cost in Toronto?
It depends on the machine, the duration and the delivery, so any figure quoted without those details is a guess. What we can tell you is what drives the number: capacity and model, how long you hold the machine, delivery and collection, and whether an operator is required. Give us the load and the timeline and we will quote it properly rather than approximately.
Can this equipment work inside a building?
Yes, and it is much of what we do. Broderson carry deck cranes are built low and compact specifically for indoor plant work, with LPG options for confined spaces. Many ORION configurations also suit enclosed facilities. The practical questions for indoor work are door and overhead clearance, floor loading, and whether the engine type suits your ventilation.
How heavy a load can you handle?
Our ORION forklift line runs from 24,000 lb to 160,000 lb, and Broderson carry deck cranes cover 2.5 to 25 ton. Rated capacity for any specific lift depends on load centre, lift height and, on a crane, radius and whether it is set up on outriggers. Ask us for the load chart before you plan the lift rather than working from a headline figure.
Do you provide crane and forklift services in Toronto beyond rental?
Yes. We stock OEM parts for Broderson and Versa-Lift as an authorised dealer, and as the manufacturer of ORION we can supply anything on those machines. Our service department is mobile and equipped to work on cranes and forklifts rated 20,000 lb and above, whether you rented from us, bought from us, or already own the machine.
Are you a Toronto crane company?
We are based in Oakville, about 30 kilometres west of downtown, and we have supplied Ontario industry since 1982. We deliver into Toronto and the GTA constantly. What separates us from a general rental company is the equipment itself. Carry deck cranes and high-capacity forklifts are not machines most rental fleets carry, and we manufacture one of the three lines ourselves.
